In this video weathering guide Mike Wild sets about giving Fowler '7F' 2-8-0 53808 a realistic weathered finishing using Lifecolor acrylic paints and an Iwata airbrush. Join him in the workshop here to watch the full process unfold.
The Fowler '7F' 2-8-0s were unique to the famous Somerset and Dorset Railway and fortunately we can model one of the signature locomotives using Bachmann's ready-to-run 'OO' gauge product.
March 2021 marks 55 years since its closure in 1966 and the April 2021 issue of Hornby Magazine celebrates the famous line. As part of our coverage we illustrate the sound installation process for the Fowler '7F' using a YouChoos sound profile loaded onto a ZIMO MX644D sound decoder. However, our project locomotive was looking much too clean for a realistic working engine, so we took it back into the workshop to give it a full weathered finish using a collection of Lifecolor acrylic paints.
In this video tutorial we go through the weathering process with our sound fitted model of 53808 explaining all the steps along the way including the paints, tools and equipment we use, airbrushing techniques, paint modulation and more.
