‘West Country’ Special

Who says installing digital sound is hard? PAUL CHETTER takes on Hornby’s air-smoothed ‘West Country’ and discovers that installation of sound and much more is within the abilities of all modellers - with a brand new video sound demonstration too.

A Bullied ‘Pacific’ thundering through a cutting with the ‘Golden Arrow’ legend across the smokebox door is my earliest recollection of a steam locomotive, depicted brilliantly in a boys’ annual. You can imagine how thrilled I was then to ride the footplate to record the sounds of unrebuilt ‘West Country’ 34007 Wadebridge under load.
