January 2022 marked the closure of a modelling stalwart, in the form of South Yorkshire-based Whirlybird Models.
The firm had indicated its intention late last year, with the announcement that co-founder Roger Evans had decided to retire, followed by a joint declaration by Roger and Dave Evans that they were both stepping back from the hobby. They stated that: “We are looking for a buyer, so if you fancy taking over Whirlybird, please get in contact with us, as we would love to see the range continue to be available.”
Whirlybird provided an eclectic mix of subjects, usually in the form of multi-media offerings, along with a broad range of conversion and upgrade sets, and it’s to be hoped that another company will take over the firm’s product range.
