HM160, October 2020
Thousands of models have been made by the Hornby brand over the past 100 years ranging from the simplest of toys to the most detailed scale models we could imagine. Hornby Magazine editor MIKE WILD presents the magazine’s top 100 Hornby locomotives and opens the vote for you to pick Hornby’s best model of all time.
In today’s world it is hard to think of new products being prepared but never released, but during the mid-1970s and early-1980s Hornby had a run of prototypes which didn’t make it to the shops. MIKE WILD looks back to the past through Pat Hammond’s recent Centenary year Hornby Book of Trains to reveal some tantalising models which never made it to the shops.
Perhaps the most popular model of the early Hornby Dublo period was the LNER’s ‘N2’ 0-6-2T, which launched the Dublo range alongside the Gresley ‘A4’ in 1938. Many variations, some more realistic than others, followed. EVAN GREEN-HUGHES looks back at the history of this often modelled but unappreciated class.
