WARHAWK BAYS
Intended for Special Hobby’s recent toolings of the P-40 Warhawk/Tomahawk, this CMK set comprises just five well-cast resin parts, and these are for the wheel bays and fabric covering for the tailwheel aperture.
EXHAUSTING VENTS
Modellers wanting to add a touch of refinement to their Eduard Fw 190s, but who don’t want to install a whole engine, can take advantage of these handy resin exhausts from Barracuda.
ORIENTAL TANK-DESTROYER TREATS
There have been many positive comments on Tamiya’s 1/48 Type 16 tank destroyer, but, as always, there are some items that cannot be rendered convincingly in styrene, so Hauler’s resin and photo-etched update will be welcomed by those wanting maximum detail.
SHORT-BELLIED 'FRIGHTNING'
Hasegawa’s Lightning F.6 (itself a re-boxing of the original FROG kit) might be long in the tooth, but Freightdog’s handy resin conversion enables an earlier F.3 variant to be built.
SNEAKY PROBOSCIS
While Academy’s 1/35 OH-58 Kiowas (due to be re-released in 2020) are well regarded, the nose configuration is incorrect for the later versions, which feature a revised forward structure, known as the ‘Stealth Nose’.
HEAVY HAULER GEAR
Italeri’s C-130s are the only kits of the type in this scale, so it’s great to see aftermarket manufacturers address their shortcomings.
'SUPER BUG' BLING
Academy’s 1/72 F/A-18E/Fs are arguably the best ‘Super Bug’ offerings, but Eduard’s PE set improves the detail considerably.
LITTLE LAUNCHERS
Black Cat Models’ 3D-printed resin Mk.IX torpedo tubes feature the firm’s usual high levels of refinement, and comprise a pair of quadruple deck-mounted launcher mounts.
PREFAB CONCOURSE
Inspired by the George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, this laser-cut terminal building kit is ideal for depicting a range of installations for 1/144 displays.
HARDPOINT EXPANSIONS
This set of 1/32 Triple Ejector Racks (TERs) from Eduard’s Brassin range is ideal for adding expanded ordnance mounts on a range of military jets.
COMPREHENSIVE CANISTERS
Following its Allies Jerry Can set (35587), MiniArt has released this collection of 1/35 German containers, including examples labelled for kraftstoff (motor fuel), wasser (water), oel (oil) and feuergefährlich (flammable) contents.
DIMINUTIVE LINKS
Modellers or wargamers who wish to enhance the running gear on Zvezda’s 1/100 scale Kliment Voroshilov tank will be delighted with these superbly detailed resin tracks from OKB Grigorov.
FEELING THE PRESSURE
Although subtle, there are several tell-tale features that can be used to identify Bf 109Gs with pressurised cockpits (G-1, G-3 and G-5s), and AIM’s 1/32 multimedia set contains these parts for Hasegawa (and re-boxed Revell) Bf 109G-6 kits.
WITHSTAND THE STORM
These resin parts for Special Hobby’s 1/32 Hawker Tempest are intended to replace the kit-supplied mainwheel legs and improve on the fit, detail and strength of the original styrene components.
VIPER GEAR
Designed to fit Tamiya’s F-16C/N kit (61106), this two-fret set provides a wealth of extra detail.
FROM THE ASHES OF EMPIRE
This Photosniper release from Kagero reveals how Hungarian armoured forces fought alongside Germany during World War Two.
DRAUGHTSMANS’ NAVAL ART
Author John Roberts offers a different take on the Royal Navy’s battlecruiser HMS Repulse, by utilising the official technical ‘as-fitted’ general arrangement diagrams to describe the ship and its modifications during its 25-year operational service.
TINY AVIATION TREATS
WHILE EDUARD has a superb reputation for its larger-scale offerings, it has quietly set about also establishing itself as a ‘go-to’ firm for 1/144 kits.
ANTI-SUBMARINE SCRAPPER
The Soviet ship Petropavlovsk was one of seven Nikolayev-class vessels (known as Kara by NATO, which regarded it as a cruiser due to its weapons complement), built under the project designation 1134B Berkut (golden eagle) as a gas-turbine-powered large antisubmarine warfare ship.
FLYING WING IN FOCUS
THE LATEST title in Valiant Wings’ Airframe Detail series is due for publication in late February and features the distinctive Gotha Go 229.
