SPREAD YOUR WINGS
Here’s a decidedly different scheme for those with Monogram or SOVA-M 1/72 long-winged Albatross kits, in the shape of Red Bull Racing’s striking livery, complete with charging animal artwork on the fuselage and the company’s logo on the two-tone vertical stabiliser.
PHINAL PHLOURISH
Japan’s Air Self-Defense Force has never been shy when it comes to special schemes on its aircraft, and arguably some of the most striking have been created to mark the retirement of the F-4EJ – this set from DXM provides markings for 302nd Squadron’s ‘white Phantom’ (similar attire for the unit’s ‘black Phantom’ are available as 91-7130).
DEUTSCHE AIRFRAME DATA
This set of Luftwaffe stencils for 1/48 Eurofighters is perfect for replacing lost, missing or damaged markings and can offer an alternative to a kit-supplied livery.
“WITNESS THE FIREPOWER”
Modellers wanting a convincing replica of the second Death Star from Return of the Jedi via Bandia’s splendid kit may find Greenstrawberry’s bespoke decal set useful, as it provides markings for all exterior surfaces.
FLYING WITH A SMILE
One of Slovakia-based airline Sky Europe’s most striking liveries bore the face of Miss Austria 2006 Tatjiana Batinić on the fuselage, and this is replicated by BOA Decals’ set.
SCOUT TO HALF-TRACK
Pen and Sword’s library of combined modelmaking/reference guides has recently expanded with Land Craft acting as a companion to the Tank Craft publications.
COLONIAL CONFLICT
As the introduction to this Africa@War publication states, conflicts around the Western Sahara are little-known in Britain, so this may be the first English-language guide to the battles that raged between 1945-1975.
PILOT PREPARATION
While frontline machinery gathers considerable attention from modellers and enthusiasts, training aircraft are of equal importance; as such, this photographic reference to World War Two Luftwaffe examples will be a valuable resource.
'SANDY' STUDY
Schiffer Military’s Legends of Warfare series is providing aviation enthusiasts and modellers with a refreshing appraisal of many classic designs, with this volume on the Douglas A-1 Skyraider being an ideal example.
BARNWELL'S BULLET
Bristol’s Scout biplane was an important but frequently neglected World War One aircraft, often overshadowed by later types.
EYE OF THE HURRICANE
Valiant Wings’ Airframe & Miniature series is a firm modellers’ favourite, with this volume dedicated to a beloved subject: Hawker’s Hurricane.
TANK DRAWINGS
Kagero’s Top Drawings books may have low page counts, but in terms of information density they are arguably one of the most value-for-money products currently available, especially when the separate foldout A3 plans are factored into the equation.
FLYING LEATHERNECKS
Harpia’s Air Power studies have rapidly become a key reference for modellers and aircraft enthusiasts alike, but its latest volume on the modern US Marine Corps aviation force has gone one step further.
WEASEL 'VIPER'
Readers familiar with Canfora’s Wingspan series, which showcases features of large-scale kit builds, are in for a treat with this offshoot special edition – devoted to just a single subject, a project by renowned modeller Jan Kopecký using Tamiya’s 1/32 F-16C Fighting Falcon.
BUMBLEBEES, HORNETS AND RHINOS
This addition to Schiffer’s Legends of Warfare series covers two machines intended to fill the German Wehrmacht’s selfpropelled artillery needs: the Sd.Kfz. 165 Hummel (bumblebee) howitzer and Panzerjäger Hornisse (tank-hunter hornet), later known as the Nashorn (rhinoceros).
STUG STARTER
Pen & Sword’s Tank Craft titles often form an ideal introduction to a subject as the page count is relatively short – as a case in point, this guide to the Sturmgeschütz (assault gun) III and IV skips the types’ origins.
COMMEMORATING ‘THE FEW’
Released to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, this collection of full-colour profiles provides multiple examples of the two primary Royal Air Force fighters, the Supermarine Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane, along with two depictions of the Boulton Paul Defiant.
MISSING MOTIFS AND MORE...
Available separately from NuNu’s 1/20 McLaren MP4/2C (see p94), the firm’s dedicated Detail-Up parts comprise injection-moulded (and chrome-finished) hose ends, two photo-etched metal frets, metallic self-adhesive stickers, a ribbon seatbelt plus no fewer than six decal sheets.
TRAINER FRAMING
The complex glazing on Fw 189 kits is challenging to mask, so Special Hobby’s bespoke product for its recent Fw 189B trainer will simplify the task greatly.
GREYHOUND GUBBINS
Older kits are often neglected by aftermarket suppliers, but Czech firm Hauler bucks this trend by addressing such subjects – this upgrade package is designed for Italeri’s 2004-tooled 1/72 M8 Greyhound armoured car.
PIN-POINT STRIKE
Eduard has scaled down its 1000lb JDAM in this set of eight munitions with smooth uncoated bomb bodies, making them appropriate for non-maritime aircraft worldwide, including Tornado IDS, F-16, F-22 and F-35.
FREE LISTING: EASTERN FRONT HAWKS
FREE: Complete listing of schemes included in Begemot's 1/48 collection of Curtiss P-40s operated by Soviet forces - one of the most comprehensive works on a single type, containing decals for no fewer than 41 individual aircraft.
FINE BRASS LINKS
Even with modern moulding technology, reproducing chains is difficult in styrene, so this 50cm length of fine (2.1 x 1.7 x 0.4mm) links will be a boon for modellers building 1/35 armour kits and even large-scale maritime subjects.
STURMOVIK ‘OFFICE’
Designed for Tamiya’s splendid 1/48 offering, this is one of Yahu’s more complex update sets, providing replacement side console and equipment box facings in addition to the usual pre-painted and -assembled instrument panel.
LEATHERNECK TANKER
Whether you are intending to convert a baseline C-130J to a US Marine Corps tanker or update an older Italeri kit, this splendid two-piece set from Brengun is ideal and will make for an eye-catching model.
NIGHT-FIGHTER ADDITIONS
Comprising just a single photoetched steel fret, Eduard’s upgrade for ICM’s 1/48 Junkers Ju 88C-6 night-fighter is nonetheless effective.
TRANSPORTER TRIMMINGS
Airliner-scale specialist Shelf Oddity has produced a comprehensive four-fret photo-etched brass upgrade for MikroMir’s 1/144 Blackburn Beverley.
GENERIC CREW
Although intended to complement the firm’s range of sci-fi accessories, Greenstrawberry’s generic 1/350 resin figures are equally suitable for real-world naval models in this scale.
STARSHELL SHOOTERS
While Black Cat Models has produced its own 1/350 Flower-class frigate kits, those with other models can still add the French firm’s superb 3D-printed detailing with separate sets.
