APT-P goes to tooling

Design and testing of the all-new Hornby ‘OO’ gauge model of the Advanced Passenger Train has allowed the model to move forward to tooling.

Hornby has confirmed that the power car for the APT will feature a centrally mounted five-pole motor, twin flywheels and all-wheel driving serving up ample power to move a maximum length 14 coach train. There will be separate decoder sockets in the driving cars to operate the lights as well as a decoder socket in the motorised car to operate the driving functions.

Hornby has also confirmed that the pantograph will be sprung following on from the design work for the Class 91 (HM156). Decoration artwork is currently being generated for the five and seven-car train packs to take the project forward to the next stages.
