Kernow Model Rail Centre (KMRC) has received the first Engineering Prototype samples of its forthcoming ‘OO’ gauge Great Western Railway (GWR) steam railmotor for evaluation.

KMRC is producing models of Diagram O and Diagram R steam railmotors, finished as preserved No. 93 in GWR lined crimson lake (Cat No. K2301), No. 97 in simplified GWR chocolate and cream (K2302), No. 63 in GWR lined brown (K2303), No. 85 in GWR lined crimson lake (K2304) and No. 61 in GWR fully lined chocolate and cream (K2305).

These all-new ‘OO’ gauge models will feature working valve gear, all-wheel pick-up, directional oil lamps, working interior lights, 21-pin Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder socket and pre-installed 28mm diameter speaker. Uniquely, the motor will also be positioned vertically within the boiler casting of the power bogie.

KMRC’s tooling suite will also incorporate detail variations between the two diagrams, including boiler room window, passenger door and bogie differences.

Following extensive assessment of detailing and running characteristics, any necessary tweaks will be made before the model progresses to the next stage in the development process. Livery artwork is also currently underway, with decorated samples expected later this autumn.

Pre-order prices are set at £169.99 each, with a release date yet to be confirmed.
