Rapido Trains UK has revealed that it is to produce all-new Great Western V6 ‘Iron Mink’ vans for ‘N’ gauge.
The Great Western ‘Iron Mink’ vans’ defining characteristic was that the standard wooden construction was exchanged for a metal construction due to wood shortages.
Rapido Trains’ new 'N' gauge model will reflect the many changes the wagons went through in their long careers. The tooling suite will cater for plated or ventilated ends, wooden or metal doors and different brake configurations. The wagons will also feature metal bearings.
Currently at the design stage, colour schemes planned include Great Western Railway, Southern Railway and British Railways Western Region liveries.
Following on from the ‘Not Quite Minks’ that were released in ‘OO’, Rapido Trains UK will also be releasing these wagons in colour schemes that were not prototypical. They will be available in triple wagon packs, together with a G. Fawkes single example.
Priced at £69.95 for triple wagon packs and £29.95 for single wagons, a release date has yet to be confirmed.
