Class 104 Conversion

In a classic piece of hands-on modelling, TIM SHACKLETON takes a brutal-looking selection of saws, files and knives to an elderly Hornby model. In the first part, he tackles the chassis.

The grand old sport of ‘kit bashing’ is nothing like as popular as it once was, but then neither is it strictly necessary these days. At one time, sawing up Lima or Kitmaster coaches was the only way to get hold of otherwise unobtainable Mk 1s such as a 57ft full brake or a buffet restaurant but now pretty well everything you could possibly want is available off-the-shelf.
