A decade after its announcement, BEN CHURCH reviews this distinctive GWR train and asks whether the wait has been worthwhile.

The Great Western Railway (GWR) steam railmotors were some of the most unusual vehicles to ever emerge from Swindon Works - and a generation ago the thought of one of these being available ready-to-run seemed impossible. Kernow Model Rail Centre (KMRC) rose to the challenge and after being announced in 2014 the long wait is finally over, with these ‘OO’ gauge models arriving into stock in early 2024. How has KMRC recreated this unusual piece of Great Western history in miniature and has the model been worth waiting for?
