For the second year running the Great Electric Train Show will be the only model railway event after the Chester Cathedral’s Making Tracks II for you to see Pete Waterman’s latest ‘OO’ gauge model railway in its current form.
For the 2022 Making Tracks II event Pete and the Railnuts team went back to the drawing board to create a brand-new 64ft long scenic layout with a West Coast Main Line theme, but this time representing the Kilsby Tunnel-Hillmorton Junction section including the challenging grade separation on the approach to the junction.
Construction started after the 2021 Great Electric Train Show and saw the Making Tracks II layout installed in Chester Cathedral in late July for a summer long exhibition which closed to the public on September 3. Highlights of the new layout include a full length four-track main line modelling both the WCML and Northampton route, custom made catenary and laser-cut structures, scale length trains, automatic signalling and DCC control using the Roco Z21 system.
For the Great Electric Train Show, Hornby Magazine is sponsoring movement of the layout to the show and will also be providing rolling stock and operators to bring the layout to life with a colour array of privatisation era trains.
