Rapido Trains has revealed engineering samples for its forthcoming Great Western Railway ‘44XX’ 2-6-2T in ‘OO’ gauge.

Rapido has modelled detail variations including outside steam pipes.

Designed by George Jackson Churchward in 1904, this small class of 11 locomotives were built for small branch line work. The class lasted until 1955 where all were scrapped.

Rapido’s comprehensive tooling allows for detail variations to be represented including locomotives with inside or outside steam pipes, copper capped or cast iron tapered chimneys, tall or short safety valve covers, parallel or taped buffers, the fitment of ATC equipment and more.

This sample is a BR era locomotive with no outside steam pipes.

Liveries planned include Great Western green with Great Western lettering, GWR roundel or wartime GWR lettering plus BR green, BR lined black and BR unlined black.

Featuring a Next18 DCC decoder socket, these ‘OO’ gauge models are expected to arrive in third quarter of 2024.

These models are available for pre-order at £172.95 DCC ready and £284.95 DCC sound fitted.
