NEW FIRE-FIGHTING GUARDIAN FROM SPECIAL HOBBY

The Czech company’s 1/48 kit of this US Navy anti-submarine aircraft has been adapted to represent a civilian fire bomber, as CHRIS CLIFFORD explains.

NEW FIRE-FIGHTING GUARDIAN FROM SPECIAL HOBBY

Special Hobby first released its 1/48 Grumman Guardian in 2014, in AF-2S ‘Submarine Killer’ format. It emulated one half of the 1950s ‘hunter-killer’ pair, the other being the radar-wielding AF-2W, which located the enemy submarine in the first instance (and which Special Hobby also produced) before an attack could be executed. Now, with kit  SH48225, the firm offers the means of building a civilian-operated Guardian equipped for fire-fighting by way of new decals – and different employment of parts already on the runners.
