Kev Baxter tackles MikroMir’s 1/72 Canberra T.17 straight from the box and enjoys using AK Interactive’s lacquer-based paints.
During the mid-1980s, a fresh-faced young airman working in Air Traffic Control on his first tour at RAF Leuchars noted some ongoing flight activity and asked: “What’s this Coffee ‘C’ and Coffee ‘D’ the Canberras are doing with our Phantoms then?”
The rather pithy reply informed said sprog that should he learn the truth, his life would be forfeit. Invariably, this meant my slightly more senior colleagues didn’t know the answer either, but it did provide an ideal opportunity for them to coerce a brew out of the precocious newcomer: “Did someone mention coffee? Nice one NATO, thanks.”
Despite the banter, this episode gave me the desire to build one of those unusual aircraft, and the chance arose with the arrival of MikroMir’s recent 1/72 offering.
