Revel in nostalgia – and gain modelling inspiration in the process – with these fascinating aircraft photos by Key Publishing archivist Keith Boucher.
Above: This Northrop NF-5A, K-3041 of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, received its special markings for the 1980 airshow season. It wears the lion’s head badge of 315 Squadron on its starboard side and was based at Twente, in the Netherlands. It’s seen here at Mildenhall on September 23 of that year. The Dutch also operated a spare NF-5A in this livery during 1980, coded K-3028. (All photos Keith Boucher)
The years preceding the end of the Cold War and just after were golden for aviation enthusiasts and modellers, as many military types now no longer serving were still in operation – and often seen at airshows in the UK. Key Publishing’s archivist, Keith Boucher, was a keen visitor to airfields during that time and here, he presents a selection of his favourite subjects. They were taken during various airshow and airfield visits, and highlight both NATO aircraft and some of the more interesting warbirds extant during that the period. Perhaps something here could inspire your next build project…
