Bomber fans have an interesting option in Planet Models’ re-released 1/72 Avro Manchester Mk.Ia, as CHRIS CLIFFORD explains.
Certain aircraft types have evaded production in styrene for years. For some we are still waiting, while others have been available via resin/mixed-media kits. One more esoteric subject that has still not been kitted fully in styrene is the Avro Manchester, although there are several conversions aimed at transforming styrene Lancasters. If you are happy building resin kits, though, Special Hobby’s boutique Planet Models label has released both the Manchester Mk.I and Mk.Ia. Here we examine the latter, which has just been reissued after a 13-year absence. This is the sub-type without the extra vertical tail in the centre of the horizontal stabiliser, but sporting the taller vertical stabilisers/rudders and wider-span horizontal tail.
