San Clemente is set in Southern California in the period around 1959. It portrays operations on a secondary line served by two separate railroads – the Southern Pacific and the Santa Fe.
Traffic is predominantly agricultural products which are conveyed in reefers (refrigerator cars). There is also occasional general freight delivered to the various points on the route.
The layout is HO scale, 1:87, 16.5mm gauge. It is a little unusual in that it is in the shape of a U, operated from the inside and viewed on three sides. When operating the layout from the centre, it gives the impression of distance as one can only see one part of the layout at any time.
The layout is operated via DCC and most locomotives feature sound. Crossing lights and working signals are also a feature of the layout.
