Waldbury - the GWR in the 1940s

Drag racer BERNARD NEWBURY took the plunge to build his dream model railway when he retired modelling a Great Western Railway main line station in 'OO' gauge and set in the 1940s. IF YOU WANTED a brand new canvas hood for your Rolls Royce, a one off custom interior for your camper or a simple set of seat covers, Bernard Newbury Interiors was the place to go, but he also had a tremendous passion for drag racing and built one of the fastest floorpan Beetles – named Stitch Up – which hit the headlines for its incredible quarter mile times. Bernard’s pursuit of speed put his car across the finishing line at more than 143mph in just over eight seconds from a standing start in a quarter of a mile.
