Modelling clubs can often be a source of inspiration for builds, and that’s definitely the case for the decision to build this 3D-Blitz Models’ PC-21. It all started with the local club competition secretary announcing the next theme would be ‘Simply Red’. Greeted by the usual well-meaning howls of derision and claims of “it’s been done” and “that’s so corny”, it nonetheless got the creative juices flowing and inspired lateral thought as to how to bend the rules to include a seemingly non-related subject. You know, along the lines of a Spey-engined Phantom… as the powerplants were developed at Rolls-Royce’s Hucknall facility (for the uninitiated, Hucknall is also the surname of the band Simply Red’s lead singer, Mick). Alas, on this occasion it quickly emerged that such devious machinations would not be permitted, with the intent being for the models presented to be predominantly red in colour.
