One arguably unsettling aspect of the Cold War was the expansion of nuclear weapon employment from the strategic to the tactical level, with such munitions fielded by both NATO and the Warsaw Pact. For the US/NATO, a key weapon from 1972 until the final years of the Cold War was the MGM-52 Lance system, deployed initially on a towed trailer, but eventually reconfigured onto a fully mobile launcher based on a modified M113 armoured personnel carrier chassis (designated as the M752).
