Azur-FRROM has up-scaled its gorgeous Super Mystère to 1/48, built here by Chris Jones.

AZUR-FRROM’S NEW 1/48 SUPER MYSTÈRE

After successfully developing the Ouragan and Mystère series of jet fighters, Dassault made a number of upgrades and modifications to the Mystère IVB to produce the Super Mystère. The result was the first production fast jet from western Europe to exceed the speed of sound in level flight, an extraordinary achievement for the French aviation industry. Beyond flying for France, the Super Mystère B.2 was exported to Israel, and was used during the Six-Day and Yom Kippur wars of 1967 and 1973. Israel Aircraft Industries also re-engined and adapted the Super Mystère to become the Sa’ar (Storm in Hebrew), which was subsequently exported to Honduras, Central America.

Dassault’s Super Mystère B.2 has been poorly served in 1/48, so the announcement of a quarter-scale new tooling from Azur-FRROM had many modellers (the author included) chomping at the bit. This early variant boxing is somewhat sparse, with no underwing pylons, drop tanks or AIM-9 Sidewinders on offer (despite the box art depiction), but it is understood this will be rectified in future releases by both Azur-FRROM and Special Hobby.
