Beemax has released a new-tool 1/12 Lotus 99T, replicating Ayrton Senna’s 1987 Monaco GP-winning car… well, kind of, as CHRIS CLIFFORD reveals.
Releases of Formula 1 cars in 1/12 scale are few and far between. So, motorsport modellers may be thankful for the all-new new Lotus 99T from Beemax. Produced in conjunction with Platz, under official licence, the kit replicates the Honda-engined #12 car driven to victory in the 1987 Monaco Grand Prix by Ayrton Senna. That said, it doesn’t do that entirely accurately due to the ban on cigarette advertising, therefore the ‘Camel’ titles and logo are missing, being usurped by ‘Lotus’ and the company logo instead. As with many other race cars in different scales, though, truly accurate markings can be found on the aftermarket. Shunko Models, Indycals and Decalpool all produce bespoke decals offering the full livery, to satisfy the purist.
