‘Clans’ destined for release soon
Decorated samples of Hornby's eagerly-awaited ‘OO’ gauge BR ‘Clan’ 4-6-2s have arrived for assessment.
Based on Robert Riddles’ BR ‘Britannia' 4-6-2 design, ten ‘Clans’ were initially built at Crewe Works in the early 1950s. Further examples were planned, but this was never progressed. All were named after Scottish Clans, reflecting their intended use on services to, from and within Scotland.
Hornby introduced its ‘OO’ gauge model in 2009 and since then only three models have been produced. These latest releases will appear as 72004 Clan MacDonald in BR lined green with early crests (Cat No. R3995) and 72009 Clan Stewart in BR lined green with late crests (R3996).
As with earlier releases, the models will feature locomotive drive, a five-pole skew-wound motor, 8-pin Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder socket in the tender, decorated cab interior, sprung metal buffers and small tension lock couplings in NEM pockets.
Priced at £179.99 each, they are due for release during the Summer.
