CLEY-ON-SEA IS A HOME based layout set on the North Norfolk coast where history has been slightly different to the reality of today.

The port of Cley was once one of the busiest ports in England but silted up in the 1700s. I have imagined this didn’t happen and that the port and town were still on the railway network in the 1960s. The town of Cley continued to grow and became a busy holiday destination similar to Great Yarmouth, being served with many summer Saturday holiday trains from the North and the Midlands.

As a nearby resident, I’m quite pleased Cley-next-the-Sea remains a sleepy little village. I have changed the name to Cleyon-Sea as the London and North Eastern Railway did the same to nearby Wellsnext-the-Sea.
