If you plan to build one or more examples of Heinkel’s He 162 – the so-called Volksjäger – Crécy’s re-released hardback on the type is packed with detail… as CHRIS CLIFFORD reports.
First published in 2009, Crécy’s superb book on the Heinkel He 162 is now available again under the Classic imprint – and offers a wealth of reference to a whole new audience. There’s never been a better time to tackle the He 162 in scale form, what with Special Hobby’s recent and well-appointed 1/72 kits, plus AZ Model’s same-scale boxings and older(but still worthy) renditions by Dragon. If you prefer larger scales, that last firm reboxed the Trimaster kit, while Revell’s own 1/32 He 162 is always worth locating.
Regardless of your Volksjäger project, a good reference book is worth its weight in gold for accuracy. Here’s where Crécy’s 208-page tome comes into its own. Entitled Heinkel He 162 From Drawing Board to Destruction: The Volksjäger, it’s easily the best work on the type ever published, being penned by noted Luftwaffe experts Robert Forsyth and Eddie J Creek. It’s return to market means anyone building an He 162 has a vast array of information.
