Dalziel North

The atmosphere around a Scottish freight terminal in the early 2000s inspired RODDY NEWBIGGING and friends to create this detailed pastiche of the early privatised railway in North Lanarkshire.Photography, Jonathan Newton

The inspiration for Dalziel North began with a phone call from a fellow member of the 57 Study Group who let me know he was to be involved in providing crime prevention advice at the PD Stirling rail terminal in Bellshill. The yard was currently under construction and he thought the location could be the basis for my new layout.

At that time, we were both within the same department but working in different divisions so, following some negotiations, our bosses were convinced I had specialist knowledge on fencing which would assist, and a site visit was arranged.
