Model Rail Scotland 2024 Preview

Scotland’s premier model railway exhibition returns to the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow this February. MARK CHIVERS casts a glance at some of the highlights of this year’s show.

Final preparations are underway for the Association of Model Railway Societies in Scotland’s (AMRSS) annual three-day model railway exhibition – Model Rail Scotland – at the Scottish Events Campus in Glasgow on February 23-25 2024.

More than 50 layouts – including a super selection of Scottish outline examples - are set to appear at this highlight in the modelling calendar, along with demonstrations, societies and a wide selection of trade support.

Above: Hornby Magazine’s ‘TT:120’ scale Twelvemill Bridge layout will be amongst the 50+ layouts at this year’s Model Rail Scotland exhibition in Glasgow on February 23-25. Mike Wild.

Amongst the stand-out layouts at this years show is Mick Worral’s stunning ‘O’ gauge 70ft x 40ft layout of Eastfield Motive Power Depot and approaches, making its UK exhibition debut. The layout models the renowned Glasgow location during the 1980s. Also set to appear is Roddy Newbigging’s ‘OO’ gauge Dalziel North, set in North Lanarkshire in the early 2000s (see pages 56-63, this issue).

Further Scottish outline layouts set to appear this year include Martin Stewart’s ‘OO’ gauge Tulloch Bridge, Scottish Diesel and Electric Group’s (SDEG) ‘OO’ gauge Wellpark, Elgin Model Railway Club’s ‘N’ gauge Glen Farist, Alex Hall’s ‘OO’ gauge Weedram Distillery, Cumbernauld Model Railway Group’s ‘N’ gauge Castlebridge, East Neuk Model Railway Club’s ‘N’ gauge Law Junction, Glenrothes Model Railway Club’s ‘N’ gauge Levenbank and more.
