FIRST REVIEW: Cavalex Models Class 56 for OO gauge

Cavalex Models’ debut powered model arrived at the end of January. MIKE WILD takes an exclusive look at the first production versions of this highly-anticipated ‘OO’ gauge locomotive.

Above: Brand-new for ‘OO’ gauge is the Cavalex Models Class 56 Co-Co diesel-electric. The first production run is expected at the end of January offering 14 different locomotive identities.

THIS IS ONE of those special models. It’s special because it is Cavalex Models’ first powered locomotive, of course - but more importantly because of the sheer level of detail that has been invested into it.

We’ve followed the Class 56 journey closely since its announcement with anticipation and having seen pre-production samples during the development process, we gained a real appreciation of the effort going into the model and the ‘no stone unturned’ attitude towards making it as detailed as physically possible.

The Class 56 has been a popular choice for ready-to-run models and this all-new ‘OO’ gauge version is the third to be produced for the scale following the Mainline model of 1983 (which later passed to Dapol and then Hornby) which was superseded by the Hornby model released in 2008. …
