VIDEO: THIS IS FLYING SCOTSMAN – PART ONE

NEW SERIES! Join us for the first of a new four-part series featuring the National Collection’s legendary Gresley ‘A3’ 4-6-2 Flying Scotsman – a cinematic journey from Keighley to Oxenhope.

THE WORLD’S most famous steam locomotive is 100 years old in 2023, as this year marks the centenary of Gresley ‘A3’ 4-6-2 Flying Scotsman. This legendary locomotive is known across the world and as the flagship locomotive of the National Railway Museum it is touring the British railway network – both heritage and main line – to mark this major milestone in its history.

Steam rises from the chimney and blasts from the drain cocks as 60103 gets under way on the climb from Keighley.

To mark this special occasion Key Model World has been following the sole-surviving Gresley ‘A3’ during its month long stay at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway to offer unrivalled access to the story of the machine, the people from its history, the footplate and more.

Part One is free to view and is a brand-new cinematic film following the BR lined green ‘Pacific’ on its five-mile journey through the rolling hills of West Yorkshire between Keighley and Oxenhope on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. Its visit to the railway saw the locomotive operating passenger trains for one long weekend only in top and tail mode with the lines resident BR ‘2MT’ 2-6-0 78022 at the rear.

Part Two launches exclusively for Key Model World Freemium account holders – a Freemium account is free to register for – on Friday June 30 at 9am and takes us Up Close and Personal with 60103 including an exclusive interview with National Railway Museum Senior Curator Anthony Coulls, footplate crew and more.

At Oakworth the lined green 4-6-2 strides majestically through the station on its journey to Oxenhope.

Finally, Part Four takes a detailed look at a Day in the Life of Flying Scotsman as we take you through every step of the operation of this giant 4-6-2 at the KWVR including preparation, driving, firing and disposal at the end of the day.
