livery artwork revealed

Hornby has released livery artwork for its new 2020 range models of the LNER 'A2/2' and 'A2/3' 4-6-2 for 'OO' gauge.

The two classes of LNER 'Pacific' are joining the Hornby range in Winter 2020/2021 with prices set at £189.99 per locomotives. Standard features across the pair of locomotive designs include an 8-pin decoder socket, space for a 28mm round speaker and a five-pole motor in the locomotive.

The 'A2/2' class models the Thompson rebuilds in 1943-1944 of the Gresley 'P2' 2-8-2s as 'Pacifics'. In total there were six 'A2/2s'.

They were distinctive in having the driving wheels set behind the cylinder block. Hornby's first releases will model 60501 Cock 'O the North in BR lined green with early crests (Cat No. R3830) and 60505 in BR lined green with late crests (R3831).

The 'A2/3' class were new builds by Thompson, introduced in 1946 and totalling 15 locomotives, which followed the pattern of the 'A2/3s' in their overall appearance, but featured different smoke deflectors to the 'A2/2s' amongst their technical changes. Hornby's 2020 range will model 'A2/3s' 500 Edward Thompson in LNER lined green (R3832), 514 Chamossaire in LNER lined apple green (R3833), 60512 Steady Aim in BR lined green with early crests (R3834) and 60523 Sun Castle in BR lined green with late crests (R3835).
