The Ukrainian firm’s exploration of naval subjects just widened with its freshly moulded U-Boat Type ‘Molch’… appraised here by CHRIS CLIFFORD.
Having already offered us the KFK Kriegsfischkutter in 1/350 and 1/44 scales, ICM sticks with the German Navy for its newest maritime release, this time in 1/72. Item S.019 replicates the single-man miniature submarine ‘Molch’ (newt or salamander), which served mainly with the Kriegsmarine’s K-Verbände (Formation K). Almost 400 of these all-electric craft were produced, although they performed poorly in combat and most were lost before they could actually press home an attack. Armament comprised two G7e torpedoes scabbed to the hull sides, in the same manner to those carried by the Kriegsmarine’s other mini-sub, the Biber.
