If you’re a seasoned builder of Formula 1 cars, NuNu’s McLaren from the 1986 Portuguese Grand Prix is an unmissable kit. It relies on the original tooling from Beemax, but adds decals for the #1 and #2 machines driven by Alain Prost and ‘Keke’ Rosberg respectively that year, at the Estoril circuit. The race was Round 14 out of 16, and it was dominated by winner Nigel Mansell in the Williams-Honda. Prost managed a second-place finish, but his team-mate Rosberg retired.

Appropriately with this kit (PN200001, approximately £37), NuNu offers the body parts in white styrene, and the rest in black; there are two runners in the first colour and four in the second, along with a small clear frame for the windscreen. The detail is praiseworthy, notably on the engine with its TAG-Turbo name in relief, and the brake units are also impressive. The textured cockpit surround is excellent too, …
