Heljan is to produce an all-new ‘O’ gauge model of the Ruston and Hornsby 48DS industrial shunter.
Developed from the ground up, this diminutive addition to the Heljan ‘O’ gauge range will feature a compact five-pole motor, flywheel, low gearing, Next18 Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder socket, separately switchable headlamps, detailed cab interior, wire mesh radiator grille, metal handrails and factory-fitted speaker within the radiator section. The all-new tooling suite will also incorporate cab and bufferbeam variations.
With design work complete, the model is now at the tooling stage of the process. 3D prototype samples of the new model are expected to be on display at the Gauge O Guild’s Guildex event in Stafford on September 2/3.
Five versions are planned initially finished in factory lined green with open cab (Cat No. 9030), yellow with wasp stripes and enclosed cab (9032), BR Southern Region green as D1169 with open cab (9035), dark green as William McAlpine with enclosed cab (9037) and Express Dairy blue with open cab (9038).
Priced at £199 each, release is anticipated during the third quarter of 2024.
