REALTRACK MODELS’ popular ‘OO’ gauge Class 156 Super Sprinter Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) has been backdated and is now available in British Rail (BR) Provincial Sector livery.
Built by Metro-Cammell in the late 1980s, five original condition two-car units represent the latest collection, finished as 156418, 156438, 156452, 156458 and 156497, each with different destinations. Our review sample represents unit 156438 as used on the Cardiff Central to Portsmouth Harbour route for a spell from 1989 (Cat. No RT156-311) and comprises Driving Motor Second Lavatory (DMSL) 52438 and Driving Motor Second (DMS) 57438.
Our sample correctly features the original form of window-fitted cab front vestibule door and early style light clusters, while both vehicles bear the Sprinter legend and associated symbol carried by early units before the Super Sprinter branding was adopted as standard. Detailing is once again superb with a great deal of separately applied parts from handrails and exhaust mesh to brake blocks and underframe engine components.
