The OO Live Steam Club is returning to the 2023 Great Electric Train Show with its hands-on live steam display.

The OO Live Steam Club has been established to continue the operation of Hornby’s short-lived live steam ‘OO’ gauge models of the Gresley ‘A3’ and ‘A4’ 4-6-2. Custom built locomotives feature on the demonstration layout.
The layout consists of an 16ft x 8ft oval with one continuous Up loop with sidings, together with one continuous Down loop with sidings.
Additionally, the layout features a sunken outer loop which is used specifically for our feature, family /visitor Have a go and Live Steam Driver experience.
The locomotives are masterpieces of model engineering. They incorporate many of the principle features of full size live steam prototypes such as double acting cylinders, connecting rods and drop links directly to the driving wheels together with a reverse motion.

Each locomotive is independently controlled from the fixed transformer/controller or our specialist hand controller. About 17volts, (6amps) powers a heating element within the immersion boiler located within the tender unit which heats up 250ml of pure distilled water to a maximum 2 bars pressure, sufficient to provide approx 20-30 mins running time.
The OOLSC provides important ongoing locomotive maintenance for our members with rolling road technical demos of these fascinating models for our show visitors.
