Planet Industrials is a new name in the world of ready-to-run model railways and its debut model is the Kerr, Stuart ‘Victory’ 0-6-0T for ‘OO’ gauge. Mike Wild finds out what is in store.
MAKING A SPLASH in the ‘OO’ gauge scene is Planet Industrials. This new name in ready-to-run launched in 2019 with the aim of creating models with an industrial theme.
The Kerr Stuart ‘Victory’ 0-6-0T is its debut model. The real locomotives were ordered by the Inland Waterways and Docks Department in 1917. The class of 10 locomotives saw service at docks in southern England in support of the First World War initially, but the end of hostilities saw the locomotives sold into industrial service with their careers continuing to serve collieries as well as the Alexandra Docks and Brecon and Methyr railways. Later history saw the locomotives migrate to National Coal Board service with the last in existence being works numbers 3066 and 3071 which were scrapped in 1969.
Features of these powerful 0-6-0Ts included 17in x 24in cylinders, Stephenson link inside motion, 4ft 0in diameter wheels, a 12ft wheelbase and a large diameter boiler with a Belpaire firebox. This added up to a substantial tractive effort of 20,567lbs. Sadly none of these
