Czech firm Special Hobby has released another 1/72 Meteor night-fighter… this time the NF.11 in an ‘RAF Squadrons’ boxing.

The night-fighting Meteors built by Armstrong-Whitworth are fascinating subjects, but for many years there were just two 1/72 kits worth considering… the vintage Matchbox offering (NF.12/NF.14, also re-issued by Xtrakit) and PJ Production’s resin item.

However, fans of the breed were catered for splendidly in 2019, when Special Hobby released its first new-tool 1/72 nocturnal Meteor, the NF.12. It was notable for its fine engraving, busy cockpits and pleasing overall detail. Now, the firm has released an NF.11 package dubbed ‘RAF Squadrons’, which relies mostly on the same components, but offers a new decal sheet with markings for four 1950s early production RAF airframes.

While the detail in general is good, the cockpit area is arguably the most impressive feature of this kit. It involves two well-appointed sidewall panels and an equally busy floor, complemented by sharply moulded instrument panels. Another cool feature is that of authentic engine front panels and full-length trunking inside the nacelles.
