Having re-released Academy’s 1/72 Ju 87G as a D-5 with new parts recently, the Czech firm has now tweaked it to replicate the night attack version.

Many Luftwaffe modellers welcomed Special Hobby’s reissue of the 1/72 Academy Stuka earlier this year, as it’s actually rather good. It became an even more attractive proposition when the former company added its own styrene components, to ensure accuracy in replicating the D-5 sub-type.

Now, Special Hobby has provided another Stuka based on the Academy kit, this time being the D-5/N night attack variant (SH72458). The major difference is the addition of Anlage exhaust flame dampers, here cast in resin with two styles (of the four known) provided… both B and the slightly shorter D types.

Dive-bombing was abandoned by October 1943 and the Stuka’s dive brakes were removed (although there were exceptions). In accordance with this, Special Hobby provides markings for one airframe with dive brakes, and three without.
