DURING NATIONAL lockdown at the start of this year I, like many others, turned to my hobby for a bit of escapism. A large project was never going to happen with shops closed, but through chance I had the ‘OO9‘ layout Wardle Bay tucked in a corner and I took on the challenge to extend the layout using bits and pieces from previous projects and the minimum of spending.

A plan was formed and the Ffestiniog Railway became the inspiration. I’d been to film the railway and the surrounding countryside the previous year so had all the reference material for a small extension at hand.

The baseboard I assembled  measured 4ft x 1ft, the same size as the original station board, and would give the trains leaving Wardle Bay a run before reaching the off-scene storage yard.
