READY-TO-RUN ‘O’ gauge is continuing to gain more support and the latest name to enter the 7mm scale sector is Accurascale.

A relative newcomer to the ‘OO’ scene, Accurascale has already made a name for itself with its finescale 4mm:1ft model of the BR 24.5ton HUO hopper (HM134) – and now it has upscaled what was already an impressively produced 4mm scale model to 7mm:1ft for its first venture into the larger scale.

The HUO was introduced in 1954 and 5,263 were built by BR to transport coal and coke. The last were withdrawn in the 1980s having seen service behind a number of steam classes including LNER 0-6-0s, ‘Q6’ 0-8-0s, BR ‘9F’ 2-10- 0s and others while first generation diesel designs including classes 20, 25 and 37 also hauled these wagons. Their sphere of operation included the North East and East Midlands on bulk coal flows, though they could be seen in other areas of the country too and there are instances of the wagons being seen singularly in mixed freights too.
