AIRFIX RELEASES FRESH 1/72 BRITISH PHANTOM COMBO

Airfix’s new Phantom boxing has parts and decals for both FG.1 and FGR.2 Phantoms included.

AIRFIX RELEASES FRESH 1/72 BRITISH PHANTOM COMBO

Until now, Airfix offered separate boxings of its new-tool 1/72 British Phantom… so it was a case of choosing either an FG.1 or FGR.2. Now, though, with item A06019A, you receive components for both variants in the same box, plus appropriate markings.

Airfix’s Phantom offers options such as open/closed radome, canopy and airbrakes, raised/lowered flaps, slats and outer wings and neutral/deflected stabilators and rudder. Three schemes are included, with the camouflage representing classic Fleet Air Arm Extra Dark Sea Grey over white, and late-service RAF Medium Sea Grey, Barley Grey and Light Aircraft Grey. The airframes are:

•    FG.1, XV582/AF, Wg Cdr John Brady and Flt Lt Michael Pugh-Davis, 43(F) Squadron, RAF Leuchars, Fife. Successful air-speed record flight between Land’s End and John O’ Groats, February 24, 1988
•    FGR.2, XV470/D, 56 Squadron, RAF Wattisham, Suffolk, 1991 – red vertical stabiliser and radome sharkmouth
•    FG.1, XV590/R COLONIAL NAVY, 892 Naval Air Squadron, HMS Ark Royal/USS Saratoga, 1978

The kit retails for £33.99 direct from Airfix and its official stockists.
