Cavalex TEA bogie tanks for 'OO' gauge

Cavalex Models’ range of ‘OO’ gauge freight wagons continues to expand with the arrival of its latest completed project, the 102tonne TEA bogie tank wagon. But is this new model MARK CHIVERS’ cuppa?

CAVALEX MODELS has delivered its latest ‘OO’ gauge wagon project with the arrival of the eagerly-awaited 102tonne TEA bogie tank wagons.

These delightful new vehicles are based on two small batches of bogie tank wagons constructed for TOTAL Oil by Standard Wagon in the late 1980s. The first batch – 85930-85944 (design code TE009D) – utilised parts from previously redundant vehicles, while the second lot – 85960-85974 (design code TE009F) – were refurbished from a previous batch of Frenchbuilt bogie tank wagons.

They were originally centred on services radiating from Lindsey oil refinery in North Lincolnshire, while over the years their sphere of operation widened with use on traffic from refineries in Wales and the South Coast. The tanks remain in service today and are regularly used on flows to and from Lindsey terminal. As well as working together, they also appear in mixed formations with other TEA bogie tank wagons, including the latest examples.
