Crossley SCRAP

A real scrapyard in West Yorkshire inspired JOSH LOVELL and BARRIE JONES to recreate it in this compact but feature-packed ‘OO’ gauge micro layout.

Class 37/5 37514 waits to leave the yard with just a solitary SSA wagon bound for Tinsley as the Sentinel deals with some ASW POAs bound for Cardiff.

HAVING been an armchair modeller for far too many years but with all good intentions that one day I would start, that day never seemed to arrive. However, upon being made redundant and with time on my hands my first layout was built, this being BSC Shepcote Lane tippler sidings in 2013.

Fast forward to 2017 and my son posted a picture on Facebook of the Crossley Evans scrapyard in Shipley, West Yorkshire, saying this would make a great little layout, so with many likes and comments the seeds were sown for us to use Crossley Evans as the basis for a new micro layout. This is not a direct copy but draws influence from that location, adding in smaller details from other locations across the UK. This scrapyard itself is small and compact, with just a few dead end sidings, piles of various scrap and general clutter. It has made a great project with plenty of scope for shunting, scratch building and weathering.
