Decorated Darstaed Thompson EP breaks through
Ellis Clark Trains has received a factory-decorated Engineering Prototype (EP) sample of Darstaed's forthcoming finescale 'O' gauge Thompson carriages, for evaluation.
This Corridor Brake Third (BTK) in BR carmine and cream is just one of an extensive selection of numbered and un-numbered 'O' gauge Thompson vehicles planned, covering simulated teak, BR crimson and cream and BR maroon liveries, with Corridor Brake Composite (BCK), Corridor Third (CK), Corridor First (FK), Restaurant Third Open (RTO), Restaurant First Open (RFO), Restaurant First with Kitchen (RF), First Open (FO), Third Open (TO), Buffet Lounge Car (RB), Corridor Third with Ladies Retiring Room (TK(L)), Corridor First with Ladies Retiring Room (FK(L)) and Full Brake (BG) also in development. An accurate 11-coach 'Elizabethan Express' train formation, with fairings (where appropriate), in BR carmine and cream is also being produced.
Each of these finely detailed coaches will feature brass coach sides, die-cast metal chassis, fully detailed interiors with mirrors, pictures and brass luggage racks, interior lighting, sprung metal buffers, compensating metal bogies, magnetic corridor connectors, Kadee couplings and more. Separate carriage roofboards will also be provided.
Following assessment of the BR carmine and cream Thompson BTK sample, further improvements will be made before the models progress to the next production stage. It should also be noted that the interiors and bogie steps have not been decorated on this sample, but will be fully finished on production models.
Prices are set at £229 for individual carriages, with multi-purchase discounts available, and £2,449 for the 11-car Elizabethan Express set. Delivery is anticipated during the second or third quarter of 2021.
