East Coast variety from Hornby
Hornby has received the first decorated samples of its all-new ‘OO’ gauge Class 91 Bo-Bo electrics and LNER liveried Class 800 Azuma InterCity Express Trains (IET) for assessment.
Representing three decades of East Coast Main Line (ECML) motive power, the models received so far include Class 91s 91002 Durham Cathedral in original InterCity ‘Swallow’ livery (R3890), 91117 Cancer Research UK in GNER blue (R3893) and 91118 The Fusiliers in LNER colours (R3891), together with Class 800/2 IET 800201 in the latest LNER Azuma colour scheme.
Hornby's newly-tooled Class 91s will feature a five-pole skew-wound motor, 8-pin Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder socket, detailed pantograph, retractable locking buffers, directional lighting and small tension lock couplings in NEM pockets and more.
Meanwhile, the manufacturer's eagerly-awaited model of the Class 800/2 IET in Azuma form appears resplendent in the LNER white, red and silver colour scheme carried by the present-day prototypes on the ECML.
Further improvements to the models’ decoration are expected before production commences.
Prices are set at £197.99 for the Class 91s and £434.99 for the Class 800/2 five-car Azuma unit.
