Heljan shows factory decorated 'O' gauge railcars

Heljan has revealed decorated samples of its forthcoming 'O' gauge model of the GWR AEC railcars with release expected in the final quarter of 2020. The new model has been produced with the support of the Great Western Society at Didcot.

The new railcars will feature directional lightings, straightforward DCC and sound installation options through the use of a 21-pin decoder socket, interior lighting, working screw link couplings, sprung buffers and a discreet mechanism. The tooling also caters for differences in windscreen wiper design and bogie drive shafts between GWR and BR era models.

Lighting modes include separately switchable train identification marker and tail lights and separate control for cab and saloon lighting. These functions can be managed by a DCC decoder or, for analogue users, via switches under the body. Heljan has said that it's new 'OO' gauge GWR AEC railcars will have the same lighting features.
