Hornby’s eagerly-awaited ‘OO’ gauge model of Avanti West Coast’s vivid Pride-liveried ‘Pendolino’ has arrived with retailers. MARK CHIVERS casts his eyes over this colourful new release.

NEW FROM Hornby is this latest version of the popular ‘OO’ gauge Class 390‘Pendolino’ Electric Multiple Unit as 390119 Progress in its distinctive and unique Avanti West Coast sponsored Pride colour scheme.
390119 was originally unveiled in its brightly-coloured livery in August 2020, with different iterations of the rainbow-inspired artwork on each of the vehicles in the 11-car formation. The West Coast Main Line train operator subsequently ran a competition to name the unit and later that October, vinyl Progress nameplates were added.
Hornby announced plans for 390119 in 2021 and this new release follows the standard Avanti West Coast liveried set (R3952) that appeared just over a year ago (HM171), finished as unit 390156.
