TransPennine Express Mk 5 weathering guide

With the deftest of touches, TIM SHACKLETON breathes fresh life into some of the most outstanding models yet released in ’OO’ gauge - the Accurascale Mk 5a Nova 3 set.

There’s a view that today’s high-end models need little if anything doing to them – you just put them on the track and away they go. That maybe true in terms of their smooth-running mechanisms and impeccable paint finish, the almost obsessive attention to detail and their overwhelming prototype accuracy.

I always like to progress projects further if I possibly can, taking things to a new level of realism. My interest is and always has been creating models that look 100% authentic in every possible way and in this feature we’ll see what we can do with two of the most dazzling UK-outline products I’ve ever seen – Accurascale’s newly launched ‘OO’ gauge TransPennine Express (TPE) coaches and the Dapol Class 68s dedicated to hauling them.
