TWO-SEAT GHIBLI FOLLOW-UP FROM ITALERI

Having pleased many fast-jet modellers with its all-new 1/72 single-seat AMX Ghibli last year, Italeri has now released the two-seat trainer version.

One of the largest gaps in the aircraft kit market was filled last year when Italeri issued its new-tool 1/72 AMX Ghibli fighter-bomber (full build here), with markings for both Italian and Brazilian airframes. Previously, fans of the type had just the basic mixed-media Aeroclub kit from the 1990s in 1/72, or expensive resin items.

Italeri’s single-seat Ghibli has proved popular so it’s pleasing indeed to now have a two-seat trainer version (No 1471). This provides new fuselage halves and, of course, two cockpit tubs with as many seats, and longer cockpit glazing. There’s also a fresh round of decals for four Italian Air Force AMX-T airframes… but none from Brazil. All wearing the standard FS 36280 grey, they are:

•    TA-11/AMX-T, MM 55051, 101° Gruppo OCU, 32° Stormo, Amendola Air Base, June 2006
•    TA-11/AMX-T ACOL, MM 55049, 231° Gruppo, 51° Stormo, Istrana Air Base, February 2020
•    TA-11/AMX-T, MM 55037, 132° Gruppo, 3° Stormo, as seen at Kleine-Brogel Air Base, Belgium, 1998
•    TA-11/AMX-T, MM 55045, 14° Gruppo, 2° Stormo, Rivolto Air Base, October 2001

The kit offers the same small photo-etched brass fuselage strengthening plates supplied with the initial AMX, and the same stores are provided: GBU-12 Paveway, AIM-9L Sidewinder, Orpheus reconnaissance pod, Litening pod and underwing fuel tanks. It costs £29.99 and is available via Italeri’s UK importer, The Hobby Company.
